So-- for tick tock rhymes-- what about jump rope rhymes or children's superstitions?
Examples:
Step on a crack, space is out of whack. Step on a line, the Inspector's out of time.
Old Inspector dressed in red, doesn't know he'll soon be dead. Old Inspector dressed in blue, really doesn't have a clue.
etc?
(Christopher Lee films works for me. At least that way we address it.)

I was using Ring goes the bell until the Inspector snuffs it.

I changed it to "ring ring goes the bell" since "ring ring goes the alarm" didn't have the same...well, ring, on tv tropes.

Ah. So, you're the one who changed the entry. It sounds much better. ;D

This is kinda Season 6 material, so it'll be linked to plot development and stuff, but...
Moffat used the tick tock rhyme as a sort of lazy man's narrator after Night Terrors. We can use the bell version as a throwaway gag, but it might be to our best interest to get a completely different replacement. Like, different tune coupled with a guitar riff.

We could always modify a children's rhyme that fits with the plot. I don't know how we'd fit it in yet but the idea isn't off the table.

When presented with a problem to be solved, I imagine the Inspector saying something profound, yet confusing. Like:
"It's not the question or the answer that's important, it's the silence in between."

Would it be wrong to raise the question of the Inspector's favourite tool? I've seen a number of things pop up: Laser Wrench, Sonic Crowbar etc. Is there a canon choice implement? Or does he carry a diverse kit? I thought the Inspector magically opened doors with a sonar-enhanced cocktail of vodka and orange juice. You know, the Sonic "Screwdriver".

How about the Inspector having a number of different tools, with each having much the same abilities, but he never knows which one he's gonna get when he reaches into his pocket?

I sort of liked the idea that each Inspector chooses a new favorite tool to use. That way it makes everybody right. Also I find the idea of an episode where the Inspector hauls around a rusty toolbox continuously trying different tools to get him out of dangerous situations until he settles on the perfect one VERY amusing.
