There was an aborted Inspector Space time movie proposed in '66 which was slated to star Peter Sellers as the Inspector. The BBC rejected the idea because they did not like the bumbling version of the inspector. It was revamped and the nationality was changed to French. They scrubbed the SF out of it and changed Seller's character name to Clouseau.
