Alright so there's been a bit of a debate over which names to use for Torchwood and U.N.I.T. What does everyone else think?
- Peacemist and Sepia Tomes Precinct are anagrams of "Spacetime" and "Inspector Spacetime", respectively.
- I don't know what TEAM, THING and CID stand for (can somebody let me know?)
If you have any additional suggestions, please post them here.

T.E.A.M likely has no meaning beyond team and unit both implying working together as one. We will need to backronym it.

For Torchwood I like the sound of MapleFire. Just putting that up for a vote.

Here we go. Employing a brain and a thesaurus, here's some backronyms for T.E.A.M.
Some are serious, some silly. The first few have meanings similar to UNIT, some quite different. Take your pick of these, or rearrange the words to make a new favourite!
Taskforce for Earth's Allied Militaries
Taskforce for Evaluation of Assaults on Mankind
The Earth Alliance Mission
Total Earth Assault Mitigation
Troops Ensuring Amiability for Mankind
Troops Eliminating All Menace
Troops Eliminating Assorted Menaces
Troops for the Enforcment of Alien Morality
Threat Evaluation Alliance of Mankind
Trans-National Enterprise for the Advancement of Mankind
Trans-National Establishment for the Advancement of Mankind
Treaty for Extinction Avoidance in Mankind
Team for Eradication of Antagonistic Miscreants
Total Eradication of Aliens and Mutants
Total Eradication of All Mankind

I like the second one. It sounds snooty and military!official.
EDIT: And by second one I mean the second one on the list of T.E.A.M suggestions.

A lot of good ones there. My favorites are : Troops for the Enforcment of Alien Morality Team for Eradication of Antagonistic Miscreants Treaty for Extinction Avoidance in Mankind Total Eradication of Aliens and Mutants (This assumes our T.E.A.M is incapable of reason and just annihilates all that it doesn't understand)

Yeah, it depends how TEAM develops. Possibly it could stand for all of those things, and no one ever gets the same answer when asked what it means, because it's all secrety and governemt-like.

The ripoff changed its meaning of UNIT for the new series. I quite like the idea that the acronym changes every time we encounter them. Although that is over complicated. If you are trying to replicate UNIT, I would go for Taskforce for Earth's Allied Militaries or Taskforce for Evaluation of Assaults on Mankind, if bizarroeing it and making it evil, go along the Eradication/Extinction route.
I was also trying to have the 'M' stand for 'Mission' and make it a powerful religious group to differ strongly, and there could be some fun had with that too

I still really prefer Sepia Tomes Precinct to Peacemist for Torchwood. It's much more creative and it sounds like it actually mean something where as Peacemist, to me, sounds kind of forced.

Peacemist is snappier, STP is cleverer and 'Precinct' fits in with policeyness of 'Inspector'. Originally set up by George II as they view IS as a rogue vigilante?
I can see Torchwood equivalent based in Cornwall. Similarly regional, slightly comic accents. Imagine:
"Welcome to Peacemist/Sepia Tomes Precinct, My Lover. We ignore Parliament, and avoid the police."
Interestingly, "Campsite's Reception" is also an anagram of IS. Cover story?!

Struggling with his pan-sexuality, he would cringe/twitch every time they called him 'Camp Counsellor' and insist it was just 'Counsellor'
